Are cloth diapers too expensive?  They can seem that way for sure.

Cloth diapers are an upfront investment of several hundred dollars (for a full time stash).  Plus if you're considering cloth even before baby is born, how will you know if you're going to stick with it after putting in all that cash? 

Nobody bought the cloth diapers on your registry did they. 

You spent so much time researching, figuring out what you needed to prepare your home for your new addition and you really hoped guests would select from the list of things you needed.  Instead you got knitted sweaters, disposable diapers, a duplicate of the baby chair you already had and a lot of unsolicited advise from your Aunt Karen while she tried to rub your belly. 

It's easy to look up potty training tips and readiness signs when your baby becomes a toddler and your child might even take to potty learning very easily, but what do you do when potty training doesn't go as smoothly as you hoped. 

With our four kids, we had many challenges so I thought I'd share a few things that helped for us. 

How do you know when it's time to start your toddler's potty training journey? Of course it's different for every child, so how do you know when's a good time to give it a try? 

Our 4 kids were all very different as they learned to use the potty, but they did show signs that made me think 'oh, maybe we should try'...

First it's important to distinguish between swim diapers and diaper covers.  Swim diapers are meant to keep 💩 poop out of the pool - full stop. It's a very important job wouldn't you agree?  And a specialized one at that. Diaper covers are meant to be the waterproof layer OVER an absorbent cloth diaper that's underneath. Still very important, but quite a different function and therefore also a different cut and fit to work properly.  

As much as we all love the reusability aspect of cloth diapers, they don't live forever.  After 200 or 300 washes, most cloth diapers are ready to retire.  Of all the components on a modern cloth diaper, elastics might be the first piece to snap, relax or dissolve. To keep this from happening prematurely, so you can get the full life out of your diapers, here's 5 things to keep in mind.

You can do it! Yes you can!  If I can cloth diaper, anyone can. No, seriously, it's way less complicated than I thought it would be.
